Farmhouse Floor Tile

As we are thinking about redoing our downstairs half bath, I have bathroom tile on the brain. I have looked at thousands of different styles, colors, and designs and I thought I share some of my picks for farmhouse floor tile. By now, it is no surprise that I love farmhouse style, modern farmhouse to be exact. So here are some of my favorite farmhouse floor tiles.

Each of these tiles are simple and pretty neutral in color. The hexagon tile is timeless and will never go out of style. In classic white, it is definitely one of my favorites. The marble tiles are a popular trend right now. These can get pricey, however, and if you get real marble there is some maintenance you will have to do. They are beautiful though. I love the first and last tiles I have on here. They scream modern farmhouse.

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my favorite farmhouse floor tile picks, and maybe even got some inspiration for your own home.

Also, don't forget about the sale I have going on right now on storyboards. It's a great time to start decorating for Christmas. The holidays can be stressful and I would love to help you check one more thing off your list by helping you decorate your home for the holidays. :) Head over to my e-design page to see my storyboard options!

How to Achieve the Fixer Upper Look

Fixer Upper is such a popular show right now. Everyone wants the Joanna Gaines style. Well good news! You can have it! There are a few things that are iconic to Fixer Upper homes and here's how you can get the look in your own home.

1. Neutrals

Joanna Gaines is famous for her iconic decor style. She sticks to neutrals for a classic look. Black, white, grey, these are all some of her favorite colors to incorporate in her homes. Sticking to a neutral color palette makes it easy to add accessories and pops of color here and there.

Notice in this picture the walls are a simple grey and the furniture is a neutral cream. This is a great timeless look.

2. Mixed Media

You will find in a lot of the Gaines' projects they use a mix of wood and metal. This combination ties into the farmhouse style they are so famous for.

In the first picture she has used a wooden table and added metal chairs. They compliment each other so nicely. The wood brings in warmth and the chairs add a more informal look to the room. In the second picture you can see the open kitchen shelves are wooden with metal piping. I love this look. It's industrial with a farmhouse feel as well.

3. Shiplap

Ah, the famous shiplap. I think everyone who watches Fixer Upper (so everyone) has an obsession with shiplap thanks to Joanna. It's such a classic accent to add to a space and adds great texture to any room.

There are so many different ways to incorporate shiplap in your home. In the first picture it is used as an accent only half way up the wall like a chair rail or wainscoting. It lightens up the space with the dark wall color and adds some fun texture. The second picture is the Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast. Here it is used on all the walls and even the ceiling too. It is such an iconic farmhouse look, it works great in the B&B.

4. Statement Lights

You will find in every fixer upper house a statement light fixture. It may be over the dinning room table or it may be in the kitchen. Joanna does such a great job incorporating fun light fixtures that anchor any room.

5. Subway tile

Subway tile is a classic look that never goes out of style. That may be why Joanna loves it so much and rarely strays from it.

She uses it in bathrooms like the picture on the left, and even in her own home which is pictured on the right. Subway tile is so simple and classic.

6. The old with the new

Joanna loves to shop at antique shops and buy at auctions. She love to incorporate older pieces in the homes they do. Adding older pieces adds character to any space.

Here you see an old church pew up against the wall. It is such a unique piece and adds a lot of character to the room. A lot of the houses they renovate are older anyways, so adding older pieces is a way to stay true to the house's original charm.

7. It's all about the details

You will notice in every home they renovate, Joanna pay close attention to the details. Accessorising the rooms and adding personal touches is something she does so well. She loves using greenery to add texture and warmth and using architectural pieces on walls as art.

Each of these rooms have florals and greenery as well as unique architectural pieces. These are great ways to add character to any room.

I hope these tips helped you find ways to incorporate Joanna Gaines's famous style in your home.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week! I'm excited to share my Friday Favorites with you all! Let's jump right in!

I am loving wooden signs right now. I love the signs with the wooden frames especially. There are so many out there that have really cute sayings or quotes, I have picked out multiples that I want.

This is a sign I got from Route 31 designs. It's hanging in our bedroom and I love it! This song was played at our wedding so it has a special meaning to us. I love the black with white writing and the wood frame. The colors make it pop and stand out.

This is another sign that I love! It's from Etsy, BunkhouseandBroadway. I love this saying and the design of it is perfect with the two fonts. It's simple but will add a lot to a space. I'm looking for a sign to put above our couch and this is one I have my eye on.

I'm in the process of wanting to redo our living room. I don't mean completely redo it but change up some of the decor. With the change will come a new rug. Therefore, rugs are next on my favorites list.

I love the way a rug can completely change the look of a room. It can go from light and airy to bright and colorful. I've picked a few of my favorites.

The middle one is the one I'm looking at for our living room. I love blues and greys, obviously, but I also like black and white and strong lines. The third rug has a tribal print vibe to it, which is popular right now. All three of these rugs would look great and I would love to style each one of them!

These are a few things I have been loving lately! I hope you enjoyed and maybe even found some inspiration for your own home!

Don't forget to check out my e-design page for a list of all my storyboard services! Now is a great time to start thinking about Christmas decorations. I know it's only October, but Christmas will be here before we know it! I can't wait!

What is a Storyboard?

E-design is a relatively new service offered in the interior design industry. It's not something a lot of people are familiar with. In a previous post I explained what e-design was, how it worked, and why it's a beneficial service. Now I want to talk about the most important part of e-design, the storyboard.

Most people probably have no idea what a storyboard is. A storyboard, or sometimes also referred to as a design board of a vision board, is what I create custom for each client. The storyboard will have the complete design vision for your room. On the storyboard may be furniture, window treatments, rugs, and accessories depending on which storyboard option you choose. The options include Room Refresh (furniture, window treatments and accessories), Complete Redesign (everything included in Room Refresh plus wall colors), and A La Carte (accessories or color palette).

This first storyboard is an example of a Room Refresh option. For this office I have picked out furniture, curtains, a rug, and accessories.

This next storyboard is an example of the Complete Redesign option. On this board you see furniture, a rug, curtains, wall color, and accessories.

The storyboard is to help you visualize what your room will look like. It's hard sometimes to see a rug and curtains separately and try to visualize what they will look like in the same room. Having all the pieces together on the board makes it easier to see how the room will look and how all the items will tie together.

Each storyboard is created with the client in mind. I think about their own personal style and preferences, how the room will be used, and different needs they have for the room. If you need a family room to be kid friendly I won't pick out a bright white couch that is basically asking for stains. Instead I may choose a dark grey sectional and furniture with extra storage for toys. Each storyboard is designed with you in mind.

I hope this helped you better understand what a storyboard is. If you have any questions about storyboards or e-design in general please feel free to comment below or ask me on the "contact me" page of my website.

Fall Decor Picks {Etsy}

I wanted to round up some of my favorite ways to add fall decor and I decided to find all my picks on Etsy. It's so nice to be able to purchase items from small business and be able to support those small business through Etsy. Here is what I found.

I love pillows, not just in the fall but all year round. Adding pillows is an easy way to change up your decor from season to season. The pillows I picked are perfect for fall.

Wooden signs are so popular right now. There are so many creative designs. I love these signs with "happy fall", "give thanks", and "gather". When you look at them you immediately think fall.

Candles are another popular item right now. They have a dual purpose, they add style to your decor and they smell great! I love these I found on Etsy that really have a unique feel to them. Glass jars are a classic look and the metal jar really ties into the fall theme.

Another way to add touches of fall is to incorporate different textures. A great way to do this is with blankets. They also have a dual purpose. They look great thrown on the back of a chair or in a basket, and they keep you warm during the cooler fall days. A knit blanket with fringe on the ends is a great way to add some texture.

I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my fall decor picks. I would love to hear how you add touches of fall in your homes!
