How to Decorate with Greenery

I love incorporating greenery into my decor with faux potted plants and wreaths. It brings a natural feel into a space and I love it. If you want to bring a fresh and natural look into your room, keep reading.

Small faux potted plants are a great way to bring some "life" into a room. Although they aren't real plants, they give the same look. I like displaying them in baskets or on a bookshelf.

I just got this plant from Marshalls and I love the cement container it's in. I got two of them and put one in my kitchen cookbook basket.

These plants don't have to be small. I love these two galvanized metal tin plants. My mother-in-law got these for me and I love them. I have them as a centerpiece on my dining table at the moments, but they were on our back porch for awhile too.

Another way I love to incorporate greenery is with wreaths. I love magnolia wreaths and there are so many ways to display them. This is how I have one in our living room. It's hanging from an old framed screen. I painted the frame and made this wreath to hang on it.

I love decorating with greenery, whether it be faux potted plants or wreaths. There are so many different ways to incorporate this natural look into your home. I hope this gave you some inspiration to try it yourself!

Storyboard Reveal

I am so excited to share with you the final look of this beautiful room I worked on a few months ago. This is my sister's bedroom and I am in love. My sister and brother-in-law moved into my grandparents' house about a year and a half ago. The house was built in the 1920's so it is old and gorgeous! Hardwood floors and thick baseboards are just a few beautiful details in this home. I was so happy to get to help them design their master retreat.

I chose this cozy grey upholstered bed for them because it brought in some really nice texture and was a nice lighter color. The studs on the headboard add an extra design detail as well. They already had this comforter so I worked the design around it. I fell in love with these pillows as soon as I saw them and they worked perfectly bringing in lighter colors to a darker comforter. The walls were already painted this lighter grey, which I am obsessed with. The nightstands add a bit of a modern touch, which is my brother-in-law's style. Their room is pretty large so I thought it would be fun to add a little reading nook with a chair or two. The grey is the perfect color and the details work well with the headboard. I love this piece of art for above the bed. It ties in the colors from the pillows perfectly. The rug works well to bring in more texture and the color is perfect.

Here is the room all finished. I love it!

As you can see there are a few modifications that they made, which is why a storyboard is such a great way to redesign. I gave them ideas and they executed them in their own time and were able to change things if they wanted. In this case they decided to have a dresser here instead of a vanity. It works well in the space and fits their needs.

Above the bed, they decided to paint their own artwork and it turned out great! What a fun DIY! They used the original painting from the storyboard for inspiration, bringing in the same colors and using the same lines. That is another advantage of a storyboard, you can take the items I select and DIY a few if you choose!

I had so much fun helping them design their master retreat. The colors and the character were so much fun to play with.

If you would like a storyboard of your own, check out my e-design page. This is a great way to redesign a room and be able to execute it in your own time. Whether you want a whole new room design, or just need some help adding those little details, there is a storyboard option for you. I would love to help you turn your house into a home.

Transitioning Into Winter Decor

Now that Christmas is over it's time to take down the tree and put away the garland. It's time to pack up the Christmas pillows and signs and store the holiday dishes until next year. This can be a tricky time of year to decorate for. It's not the holidays, but it's not Spring yet either. It can be difficult to try and decorate for winter without making it look like Christmas.

I've gathered a few examples of winter decor to help you transition your home.

I like to design with neutral colors for winter. Something about whites and greys reminds me of winter.

Adding texture is always a good thing too. Just as you would wear a sweater in the winter, you can style with the texture as well. Faux fur is another fun texture to use. Cable knit and faux fur are both so cozy and warm, that's exactly what you want in the winter cold.

I like to also add in wood elements. Natural elements like wood tend to warm a space up. A wooden tray or wooden candle sticks are a great way to add in some warmth.

So to recap, neutrals are a must have, texture is a nice touch, and wood accents bring in some nice warmth. If you stick to these three tips you will be sure to have a cozy and relaxing winter space.

Christmas Entertaining Essentials

With Christmas right around the corner you may be thinking about holiday entertaining. Hosting friends and family is one of my favorite things to do. I love getting festive plates, cups, and bowls. I've rounded up some of my favorites from Target.

I love all of these different glasses. Stemless wine, mugs, or moscow mule shot glasses, all of these are perfect for a holiday party.

This Christmas tree platter is a favorite. It's simple but festive. It's not too busy and is perfect for serving cookies on. I also love these gold dessert plates. I would use them as appetizer plates as well. They go perfectly with the gold mugs above.

I have an obsession with target's dip bowls. I have quite a few that I use year round but these Christmas ones are a must have. The designs are simple and classic and would go well with any of the other items I've listed. I love these bowls.

You can't have a holiday party without desserts right? These dessert trays are the best. I love the tiered tray with the simple garland design. It's classic Christmas. And this covered dessert plate is a great find. I love the car with the Christmas tree on top. The cover is perfect for keeping a cake or cookies fresh.

Lastly I found some linens. I love table runners and these two are no exception. This kitchen towel is a must have as well. I love the simple design and holiday colors. It would bring Christmas to any kitchen.

I hope this gave you some inspiration for your next holiday party. All of these items are from Target and they would all go very nicely together. They are perfect for a festive holiday party.
